Dressage Dominance

The equestrian world was buzzing last week as the first leg of the Dressage World Cup took place in Germany. This year’s competition is shaping up to be an exciting one, and Germany’s own Anky van Grunsven is already making a strong case for herself. She wowed the crowds in Dortmund, securing victory with a powerful display aboard her beloved horse, Bonfire.

The pair dominated the freestyle test, scoring a stunning 83.2%. However, the reigning World Champion didn’t have it all her own way. France’s Isabell Werth, riding her talented gelding, Gigolo, managed a commendable second place with a score of 79.6%, showcasing her impressive technical skill. It was an incredible start for the legendary dressage queen.

Meanwhile, in the UK, there was a wave of excitement as Britain's own Carl Hester claimed victory at the prestigious Olympia London International Horse Show. He triumphed in the Grand Prix Freestyle riding Uthopia.

A Spectacular Show of Strength

It wasn't all about the dressage, however. Across the Atlantic, in America, The National Western Stock Show wrapped up its annual run in Denver, Colorado. It was an incredible week of rodeo, with over 100,000 attendees flocking to the events, showcasing their love of the American Cowboy tradition.

The Barrel Racing saw some nail-biting performances as riders and their steeds went head-to-head, with a clear focus on speed and accuracy. The excitement peaked with the Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series event. These fearless cowboys rode the mighty bulls with unbelievable courage, holding on for dear life while navigating through some truly incredible bull-riding manoeuvres. The skill on display was breathtaking.

Jumping For Joy

This week has also seen some truly outstanding equestrian performances at the World Cup Jumping event in Amsterdam. With top riders from across the globe vying for the coveted title, this competition was a sight to behold.

The pressure was certainly on in Amsterdam, with no fewer than eight clear rounds achieved in the Grand Prix. However, the Dutch crowd were truly mesmerised as their very own Eric Lamaze, riding the phenomenal Take The Lead, claimed the prestigious win in dramatic fashion, leaving spectators in awe.
