Equine Welfare in India: The focus this week is on India. A recent study by the Indian Animal Welfare Board (AWBI) reveals a significant rise in reported cases of horse neglect and abuse, especially within urban areas.
Dr. Jyothi, Director of the AWBI, expresses serious concern: “There is an urgent need to raise awareness regarding responsible horse ownership in India. Lack of access to veterinary care, improper feeding, and overworked horses are common concerns.”
The AWBI is advocating for greater public awareness and urging authorities to enforce strict regulations for horse ownership to address the welfare crisis. The board also highlights the importance of promoting responsible horse management practices and emphasizes the need for public education initiatives.
The Equiworld Organization, headquartered in Hayfield, Scotland, urges all equestrian enthusiasts worldwide to prioritize horse welfare in their practices. We believe in fostering responsible horsemanship and promoting ethical treatment of horses.
