Show Jumping: The Big One in the Netherlands
The Netherlands was the centre of the show jumping world last week, hosting the FEI World Cup Finals in Den Bosch. A thrilling finale saw the Dutch rider Jeroen Dubbeldam emerge victorious aboard his stallion, Jenson van't Meulenhof.
The atmosphere at the Brabanthallen was electric as Dubbeldam faced fierce competition from a strong field of riders including Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum and Switzerland’s Beat Mändli. Ultimately, though, Dubbeldam’s impressive final round proved to be the difference, earning him the coveted World Cup title for the second time.
“I can’t believe it!” exclaimed Dubbeldam, after receiving his trophy. “Jenson was simply incredible. He jumped for me in the final round, and I'm so grateful for him.”
This victory firmly establishes Dubbeldam as one of the leading show jumpers in the world.
Dressage: A British Triumph in Germany
Over in Germany, the European Dressage Championships in Frankfurt were dominated by a certain British pair. Charlotte Dujardin, the reigning Olympic and world champion, delivered a masterclass performance with her legendary mount Valegro.
With scores over 80% in all three tests, Dujardin claimed the European title, cementing her place as the top dressage rider on the planet. This incredible achievement is a testament to the special bond between Charlotte and Valegro, and shows they are still at the top of their game.
This European success bodes well for the British team heading towards the Sydney Olympics later this year.
Eventing: Burghley Prepares for Another Grand Affair
The iconic Burghley Horse Trials, one of the most prestigious events on the international eventing calendar, is fast approaching. With less than two months to go until the action begins on August 31st, anticipation is growing amongst competitors and spectators alike.
Last year, British rider Pippa Funnell took the honours, securing a fourth Burghley victory and adding her name to the hall of fame at the historic Lincolnshire venue. The question on everyone’s lips: Who will conquer the formidable cross-country course this year?
We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for contenders including Germany's Ingrid Klimke, Australia's Andrew Hoy, and our very own William Fox-Pitt. Burghley is always a captivating spectacle, and this year looks set to be no different.
Racing: Derby Day at Epsom Downs
The 236th Epsom Derby, the world’s most famous flat race, took place this weekend. Thousands flocked to the Surrey track to witness the spectacle, hoping to see a winning performance from their favoured horse.
The race was won by the Irish-bred King’s Stand, a stunning colt trained by the legendary Aidan O’Brien. Ridden by Kieren Fallon, King’s Stand showcased incredible stamina to claim the victory, surpassing a field of exceptional young thoroughbreds.
This thrilling Derby win catapults King's Stand into the world of elite racehorses and adds another chapter to the colourful history of the race itself.
