February in the UK typically signifies a period of quiet contemplation for the equestrian community, as winter chills hold tight to the land. Yet, amidst the occasional flurry of snow, whispers of exciting developments begin to circulate:

Hickstead Rejects Indoor Event: This year, Hickstead will not be hosting its popular indoor event. Organisers cited financial concerns, acknowledging that the cost of bringing the show indoors is simply not viable for their budget. However, the outdoor show will proceed as usual in August.

Burghley Unveils New Feature: The prestigious Burghley Horse Trials have announced the introduction of a new feature in this year's competition - a stunning showjumping arena! This exciting addition, designed by leading course builder, John Snell, promises a captivating display of equestrian prowess.

Racing News:

Cheltenham Festival Preview: The annual spectacle of the Cheltenham Festival approaches, and excitement is already reaching fever pitch. The festival is famed for showcasing the crème de la crème of jumps horses, and the competition promises to be fierce! Amongst the hot favourites this year, both Champion Hurdle contenders, Istabraq and Mr. Mulligan, have generated much anticipation and a healthy dose of competition.

Grand National: This legendary steeplechase is still months away, but early discussions on potential contenders are already igniting debate among the racing community. This year's race may see the return of the renowned Lord Gyllene, who fell spectacularly last year. However, he remains a serious contender if his performance lives up to his former glory.

International Equestrian Events

European Dressage Championship: In a major blow to the team, the British Dressage team was struck by misfortune. The young rising star, Laura Bechtolsheimer, withdrew from the championship after her horse, Mistral Hojris, suffered an injury during warm-up for the team test. The team hopes to bounce back from this setback, despite this challenge.
