Across the Atlantic
Over in America, the National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden wrapped up on Tuesday. It was a triumphant week for Laura Kraut, who steered the phenomenal Circa to victory in the Grand Prix. Katie Monahan shone with a win in the $50,000 Jumper Classic aboard Ladriano to add to the excitement of the competition. In a nod to the up-and-coming generation, the prestigious Maclay Finals crowned Tara Lynn Becker as the 1993 champion.
European Showjumping:
Across the pond, the FEI World Cup circuit continues to generate excitement. Last week in Zurich, Switzerland, Eric Lamaze (Canada) and Champion proved a winning combination, leaving other top contenders, such as Jos Lansink (Netherlands), in their dust.
Looking ahead, the next FEI World Cup qualifier will be held in Dortmund, Germany, on 11th February, with Ludger Beerbaum, Otto Becker and the formidable German team surely in the mix for victory.
Racing Focus:
The Melbourne Cup, held in Australia on the 1st of November, 1993, was a memorable affair, with Subzero, a seven-year-old gelding owned by Alan Treweeke, crossing the line first to clinch the coveted trophy. His triumph marked the second consecutive victory for this esteemed horse, solidifying his place amongst racing greats.
In France, preparations for the iconic Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the ultimate racing test, are in full swing. With the event scheduled for the 2nd of October, this year's race promises to be another thrilling chapter in this legendary event.
Staying Local:
Closer to home, we are pleased to announce the Scottish Showjumping Grand Prix, taking place in our very own Aberdeen, Scotland, on the 19th of March! This prestigious event is sure to attract top riders from across the nation and offers a fantastic platform for aspiring equestrian athletes.
Beyond Competition:
Equine welfare remains a paramount focus across the globe. The American Horse Shows Association has recently introduced new safety guidelines for equitation events, aiming to minimize the risk of injury for horses and riders.
In Europe, the European Horse Welfare Organisation is making headway in advocating for ethical animal husbandry practices. With its ongoing campaigns promoting responsible horse ownership and responsible breeding practices, the organisation continues to champion the well-being of these magnificent animals.
A Final Word:
This week, as we celebrate the resilience and beauty of horses, let's remember the invaluable partnership we share with these incredible creatures. From the equestrian enthusiast in the countryside to the urban equestrian in the city, we are all connected by the love of the horse.
