Dressage
German Dominance at the Stuttgart CDI
The German riders, as is often the case, reigned supreme at the prestigious Stuttgart CDI last weekend. Anky van Grunsven, the reigning World Champion, rode Bonfire to victory in the Grand Prix, leaving no doubt as to her dominance in the international dressage scene. The Dutch rider, however, had to settle for second place in the Grand Prix Special, as Isabell Werth, the “Queen of Dressage,” delivered a breathtaking performance aboard Gigolo to snatch the coveted victory. The German powerhouse proved unstoppable, also taking the Freestyle to the delight of the home crowd. Werth’s performance showcased both her phenomenal connection with Gigolo and her impressive technical skill, solidifying her place as a true legend in the equestrian world. The ever-consistent Klaus Balkenhol, another German superstar, finished third in the Grand Prix, leaving a trio of German riders atop the podium.
The Future of Dressage: A Young Rider shines in Germany
Despite the strong showing of established stars, the Stuttgart CDI also witnessed the emergence of a young rider poised for greatness. Hubertus Schmidt, still just a teenager, captured the eyes of the equestrian world with his impressive performance aboard the stunning gelding, “Dorian Gray.” He won the Young Riders Grand Prix, proving that Germany’s reign in dressage isn’t only a product of seasoned veterans, but a burgeoning dynasty with young riders poised to carry the torch.
Show Jumping
A Thriller in London
The Winter Olympics might be months away, but the excitement of high-stakes show jumping was palpable at the prestigious London International Horse Show last weekend. The highlight of the event was the King George V Gold Cup, a nail-biting competition featuring some of the world's best show jumpers. Eric Lamaze, the reigning Olympic champion, looked formidable throughout the competition but a costly mistake in the final round ultimately denied him the top spot. The Canadian rider had to settle for third, while the highly competitive German rider Marcus Ehning, known for his consistency, secured victory in the prestigious class.
Australian Triumph in Belgium
Across the pond, in the Belgian city of Liege, the 31st edition of the famous CSI Grand Prix drew to a close with an Australian victory. Heath Ryan, known for his daring riding style and his bond with his mare “Cora,” demonstrated his undeniable talent to overcome stiff competition and win the prestigious grand prix event. The Australian rider’s victory was a well-deserved triumph and added to the international spotlight currently shining on him.

Pony Racing: The Stars of Tomorrow Emerge
