From the Scottish Highlands

Here at Equiworld HQ in Hayfield, near Aberdeen, we've been basking in the winter sunshine, thankfully enjoying milder weather compared to the biting cold of last month. The Scottish winter, though harsh, brings a unique beauty to our rolling hills and offers the ideal setting for invigorating hacks and winter training. We’ve heard whispers that the Highland Games might be back with a bang this year, a welcome event for all horse enthusiasts in the area.

The Big One: Dressage & Jumping in the US

Over in the States, dressage and jumping competitions are in full swing! The Palm Beach Dressage Derby hosted a dazzling weekend, showcasing some of America's finest riders. We caught glimpses of exceptional performances by Jan Ebeling, Lendon Gray, and Michael Barisone, inspiring hopefuls to train harder for the season. On the other side of the spectrum, the Winter Equestrian Festival, featuring the American Invitational, brought some breathtaking show jumping to the world. The star attraction was, of course, the coveted Rolex Grand Prix, an annual showdown for the best of the best.

Down Under: Equestrian Adventures Down South

Australia is ablaze with equestrian excitement this month! The Australian Showjumping Championships kicked off, igniting a wave of adrenaline across the country. We're excited to see how local talent will perform under the scrutiny of the national competition. Over in Melbourne, a local derby attracted a sizeable audience, generating considerable buzz. Let's hope the competitive spirit in the Land Down Under fuels a passionate new generation of equestrians.

Crossing the Channel: Show Jumping & Dressage Across Europe

European horse sports are seeing a resurgence of vigour, fuelled by a constant desire to push the boundaries of equine performance. The Amsterdam International Show Jumping tournament captivated audiences with an array of breathtaking rounds, putting elite athletes from across Europe through their paces.

On the dressage front, the FEI World Cup Qualifier in Salzburg, Austria, drew spectators in droves. Some impressive rides by riders from Austria, Switzerland, and Germany underlined their dedication to refining their art form, leaving the audience with a sense of awe and wonder.

Breaking New Ground: Harness Racing Takes Center Stage

It’s not all show jumping and dressage! This week, our attention turns to the world of harness racing. The world renowned Hambletonian stakes, which takes place at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, attracted a record crowd to watch a magnificent display of speed and agility by these magnificent creatures. It’s inspiring to see the continued passion for this dynamic form of equestrian competition.

Staying Safe: Looking After Our Equestrian Partners

With the recent cold spell, we are reminded of the importance of keeping our horses warm and comfortable. Remember to ensure your equine companion has access to a comfortable stable, plenty of bedding, and ample access to clean, fresh water. A proper feed schedule and regular health checks will help prevent any unnecessary problems.
