Equiworld News #140: Saturday, 15th January 1994

Welcome to Equiworld News, your source for all things equestrian from around the globe. Today’s edition, number 140, takes us from the frosty fields of Scotland to the sun-baked arenas of Australia and everywhere in between. Let’s saddle up and see what the equestrian world has to offer!

From our HQ in Hayfield, Aberdeenshire:

  • Freezing conditions in Aberdeenshire haven’t stopped local riders from getting their horses out. While many of us are staying snuggled up indoors, the dedicated horse lovers in the region have been braving the cold to enjoy a spot of hacking and schooling. Temperatures may be below freezing, but the spirit of horsemanship remains strong!
  • Equiworld is delighted to announce a new partnership with local feed supplier, “Highland Horse Provisions”. Their commitment to quality and customer service mirrors our own. Expect to see them as a regular contributor to our pages in the future, sharing their expertise on horse nutrition and feed management.

Across the UK:

  • The winter Olympics may be underway in Lillehammer, but the equestrian world in the UK is buzzing with its own excitement. The Horse of the Year Show qualifiers are well underway, with hopeful competitors vying for a chance to shine at the prestigious event later this year. Our fingers are crossed for all those taking part, may they ride with confidence and grace!
  • Down south in Kent, the renowned All England Jumping Course at Hickstead has announced their 2014 calendar. It promises a season filled with top-class equestrian events, with highlights including the Royal International Horse Show and the FEI World Cup Jumping stage. It’s a date for the diary for any passionate equestrian!

Europe and beyond:

  • On the other side of the Channel, in France, preparations for the prestigious *Saumur Horse Show are in full swing.* The show, known for its renowned dressage and show jumping competitions, attracts some of the best equestrian talent from across the continent. The Grand Prix de Dressage is a particularly coveted event, promising thrilling performances and fierce competition.
  • News arrives from the Australian Outback, where a team of horse breeders are embarking on a pioneering project. They're dedicated to developing a new breed of horses, specifically bred for resilience in the harsh Outback conditions. The “Desert Colt” as they’re called, are anticipated to be sturdy, intelligent, and incredibly well-adapted to the unique challenges of this terrain. Watch this space!

Equiworld Extra: Training Tips from the Professionals

This week, we’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Jane, an accomplished dressage rider and trainer. Jane emphasizes the importance of consistent and clear communication with your horse throughout training. She shares this vital tip: “Before every training session, think about what you want to achieve, and translate that into a clear, concise plan. The more your horse understands your intentions, the more willing they will be to participate.” Wise words from a seasoned expert!
