Showjumping: A New Year, New Challenges

The Dutch Masters, held annually in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, will take place from 12-16 January. This prestigious event is set to attract some of the world's best showjumpers, who will be battling for glory and the impressive prize money on offer. The reigning champion, Marcus Ehning of Germany, is hoping to defend his title, and will be facing stiff competition from riders such as Ludger Beerbaum, Eric Lamaze, and John Whitaker. In Germany, the famous Stuttgart International Horse Show is eagerly anticipated by fans of the sport. Taking place from 19-23 January, the show is known for its captivating atmosphere and its mix of classes from novice to top level. Dressage: A Glimpse of Future Stars
The dressage season is well underway with a number of events taking place across the world in the early months of 1994.
At the beginning of January, riders from the UK travelled to Verden, Germany, for the prestigious Verden Bundeschampionat. This competition is renowned for its emphasis on showcasing talented young horses, with both the national and international scenes eagerly watching the future stars rise.
In Britain, the Olympia London International Horse Show has wrapped up for this year, but the Dressage World Cup qualification classes continue across Europe with events taking place across Germany and Austria throughout January.
Racing: From Australia to the United States
The Australian racing season has begun, with some key events taking place on the famous Melbourne Cup track.
The Group One Lexus Stakes is an early sign of things to come for the Australian racing calendar. The three-year-old event has traditionally been a lead-in to the Melbourne Cup, and will see talented horses battle it out on the historic track.
Further afield, the racing scene in America has started to heat up with the famous Santa Anita Derby just around the corner. The Santa Anita Derby is the major prep for the Kentucky Derby and is attracting interest from across the racing world. This Group One classic takes place on April 2nd, giving talented racehorses a crucial platform to demonstrate their worth for the pinnacle event in May.
Eventing: Looking Forward to a Year of Great Sport
The eventing season is beginning in earnest as the world gears up for the pinnacle events, such as Badminton and Burghley.
In the UK, the season begins with the prestigious South of England Horse Trials, held at Hickstead on the last weekend of January. This is the first key fixture for the best riders and horses on the eventing scene.
Equine enthusiasts around the world will be watching eagerly as preparations continue for the World Equestrian Games, to be held in The Hague, Netherlands in August. This global event, showcasing all the equestrian disciplines, is expected to attract international stars and will feature high-quality competitions throughout.
