Welcome to Equiworld News, your weekly roundup of equestrian news from around the globe. We are reporting from our headquarters in Hayfield, near Aberdeen, Scotland, and bringing you the latest news and insights on the world of horses. This week, we delve into a number of exciting stories from across the globe, including an update on the recovery of the great showjumper, Hickstead, as well as looking ahead to some major equestrian events planned for this year.

Hickstead Makes Slow but Steady Recovery

The world held its breath when the legendary showjumper, Hickstead, collapsed at a competition in Verona, Italy, on the 19th of December. Thankfully, after a number of tests, he was diagnosed with an acute bout of colic. While the prognosis remained cautiously optimistic, his recovery has been slow but steady, and the great horse is currently back in his stable in England. We hope Hickstead will be back to full fitness soon, and wish him a swift and full recovery.

Olympic Fever Builds Across the Globe

With the Olympic Games in Atlanta fast approaching, equestrian teams around the world are stepping up their training and preparations. The 1996 games are expected to feature fierce competition across the disciplines of dressage, show jumping and eventing, with top riders vying for Olympic glory. We can expect a year filled with intense qualifying rounds and thrilling international competitions leading up to the big event.

Dutch Equestrians Shine in December

Dutch riders shone at a number of international competitions in December, showcasing their skill and dominance in various equestrian disciplines. Anky van Grunsven secured her fifth win at the Amsterdam International Dressage Festival, once again cementing her position as a top contender in the dressage arena. The Netherlands also dominated the Nations Cup competition in Verona, Italy, with their show jumping team securing the gold medal. These achievements are a testament to the high standard of equestrian sport in the Netherlands, and it is clear that Dutch riders are force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

Exciting New Events On The Horizon

We’re excited about some new events taking place around the globe this year, which are set to further elevate equestrianism to new heights. The inaugural FEI World Cup Driving Final will be held in April in Lyon, France, with competitors from all over the world competing for the prestigious title. The 20-year anniversary of the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials, to be held in May, promises to be a captivating event filled with top-tier competition and exhilarating spectacle.

World Equestrian Games Coming to Our Shores

While 1994 might be relatively quiet on the equestrian calendar compared to 1996, 1998 is already generating significant excitement with the announcement of the World Equestrian Games being held in Rome, Italy, just one year before the next Olympic Games in Sydney. The Games, to be held in October of 1998, are sure to be a huge draw for fans and participants alike.
